What a disaster!  I was sitting, reading on my iPad and occasionally checking updates on Twitter when I saw this unfolding.  My mouth dropped, I couldn’t believe what I was reading.  My stomach sunk, someone just lost his or her job!

No matter what side of the political fence you are on, no one should say anything rude about your family.  Especially our President and his beloved grandma that is deceased.  Ouch!

I’m not naïve.  I know there are a lot of people out there that like to say hurtful things to make themselves feel better.   But when you are representing a company, it’s time to grow up and change as a human being.  Why would KitchenAid even want this person working for them if they felt comfortable tweeting that on their personal account?

Folks, this is why it’s so important that you hire the right people to represent you.  If you have an employee that is on Twitter or Facebook all the time and you think that makes them fit to do your own branding online, please reconsider.  Have you checked what they are saying and posting?  Your brand could easily end up with a disastrous tweet like this.  Believe me, if it can happen to KitchenAid, it can happen to you.

At Dubtizzle, we pride ourselves on being the professional.  You can be sure that on our personal pages, we have fun and are respectful to everyone.  This can guarantee that an offensive post won’t go out on one of our client’s accounts from our devices.  And it’s simply because we wouldn’t say anything like that in the first place.
As social media is evolving, you need to make sure you have a person representing your brand online in the same manner you would.  Our recommendation would be to make sure the person that is doing your social media has experience, is mature and fully understands the consequences of an error.  This type of person will cost you a lot more, but is there anything more damaging than thousands of people hating your brand?

You don’t ever want to write something like this:

“Hello, everyone. My name is Cynthia Soledad, and I am the head of the KitchenAid brand. I would like to personally apologize to President Barack Obama, his family and everyone on Twitter for the offensive tweet sent earlier. It was carelessly sent in error by a member of our Twitter team who, needless to say, won’t be tweeting for us anymore. That said, I take full responsibility for my team. Thank you for hearing me out.”
